History
This is a many-storied and elaborate tale—suffice to say, we started as an offshoot of a small publishing company called Spectacle Publishing Media Group. SPMG was a group of wild-eyed idealists with a dream that coalesced around the idea that the author is the star of the show and, therefore, should take the lion’s share of the treasure. It was a blast! We published many books, but we realized our passions really lie in gaming.
Thus, we decided to become Great Lakes Games, Inc.! And through our own inattentiveness, we were eventually forced to re-incorporate as Runeworks Games, and here we are! We are still just folks in Madison, WI who try to make fun table-top role-playing games to share with the world. Let’s not be silly, however. If we can get paid a bit while we play, then clearly we’re doing something right!
Future
Our current flagship game is called The Darkest Age. You can get a PDF or Print copy from DriveThruRPG.com. We’re currently working on a revision of The Darkest Age Role-Playing Game using the MORK BORG rules system. We’re almost done!
After that, we’ve got a bevy of ideas, projects and games, settings, maps, adventures, and more, all piling up behind our eyes, stuck in our brains, straining to make it to the page to be shared with the world. We’re just gonna keep on keepin’ on!
Mission Statement
At Runeworks Games, we believe that table-top role-playing games are good for the mind and spirit. We are committed to the inclusive and diverse nature of the role-playing game world. We truly enjoy, seek out and strive to create role-playing games that genuinely rock.
